Hilary Gerzhoy is one of the country’s leading legal ethics lawyers, having represented equity partners leaving or joining more than half of the firms in the Am Law 100. She serves as outside ethics counsel to law firms with a national footprint, including firms in the Am Law 10, advising them across the full range of professional responsibility and risk management matters, and provides expert testimony in ethics-related disputes.

She is Chair of the D.C. Bar Rules of Professional Conduct Review Committee, a member of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility and its Ethics Series Advisory Board, and serves on the D.C. Circuit’s Advisory Committee on Admissions and Grievances. She also sits on Law360’s Legal Ethics editorial board.
Hilary is an adjunct law professor at Georgetown University Law Center, where she teaches legal ethics. She lectures nationally on professional responsibility and malpractice. She has published more than 40 articles on legal ethics, with work appearing in Bloomberg Law, Law360, and the Chicago Tribune. She is frequently quoted as an ethics authority in The National Law Journal, Law.com, and Bloomberg.
Before entering private practice, Hilary clerked for the Honorable Kermit V. Lipez of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. She received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she won the Prosser Award in both Legal Ethics and Written and Oral Advocacy, and her B.A., Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Chicago.
