Hilary Gerzhoy advises law firms, lawyers, and in-house legal departments on legal ethics and professional responsibility. She serves as outside ethics counsel to law firms with a national footprint, including firms in the Am Law 10, and to the legal department of one of the country's largest trade associations. She has represented hundreds of Am Law 100 partners moving between firms and provides expert testimony in disputes that turn on lawyers' professional obligations.

Chambers USA recognizes Hilary as “the rare lawyer who combines encyclopedic knowledge of legal ethics with genuine commercial instinct” and as “incredibly adept at identifying solutions.” She has been recognized by Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, Legal 500, and Lawdragon, and holds an AV Peer Review rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest designation for professional excellence.

Hilary is a member of the D.C. Bar's Board of Governors and its Legal Ethics Committee, the D.C. Circuit's Advisory Committee on Admissions and Grievances, and the ABA's Ethics Series Advisory Board. She is the immediate past Chair of the D.C. Bar Rules of Professional Conduct Review Committee and a former member of the ABA's Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility. She sits on the editorial boards of Law360's Legal Ethics section and the ABA/Bloomberg Law Lawyers' Manual on Professional Conduct, the complete research resource in the field of professional responsibility law and legal ethics.

Hilary teaches legal ethics as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center. She has published more than 40 articles on legal ethics in Bloomberg Law, Law360, and the Chicago Tribune and other outlets, and is regularly quoted in The National Law Journal, Law.com, and Bloomberg.

Before entering private practice, Hilary clerked for Judge Kermit V. Lipez of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. She received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she won the Prosser Award in Legal Ethics and in Written and Oral Advocacy, and her B.A., Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Chicago.
