Hilary Gerzhoy represents lawyers, law firms, legal technology companies, and in-house counsel in complex matters involving legal ethics and professional responsibility. She serves as outside ethics counsel to law firms, advises on risk management, and provides expert testimony in ethics-related disputes.
She is Chair of the D.C. Bar Rules of Professional Conduct Review Committee and serves on the D.C. Circuit’s Advisory Committee on Admissions and Grievances. She is a member of the American Bar Association’s Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee and its Ethics Series Advisory Board. She serves on Law360’s Legal Ethics editorial board.
Hilary is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, where she teaches legal ethics. She lectures nationally on professional responsibility and malpractice and is a regular speaker at programs hosted by the D.C. Bar and the American Bar Association.
She has published more than forty articles on developments in legal ethics. Her work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Bloomberg Law, Law360, the Washington Lawyer, and LexisNexis. She is frequently quoted on legal ethics issues in publications including The National Law Journal, Law.com, Bloomberg, and Law360.

Before entering private practice, Hilary clerked for the Honorable Kermit V. Lipez of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. She received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she served as Online Editor of the California Law Review, was a teaching assistant in the Legal Research and Writing Program, and received the Prosser Award in Legal Ethics and Written and Oral Advocacy. She earned her B.A., Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Chicago.
